The Importance of Purification

Purification (tahārah) is one of the most essential subjects in Islamic fiqh because many acts of worship depend on it. Salah, the most important daily obligation, is not valid without proper purification. Tahārah includes both physical and spiritual cleanliness. Physical purification involves removing impurity (najāsah) from the body, clothes, and place of prayer, as well as performing wudū’ or ghusl when required. Wudū’ purifies the minor state of impurity, while ghusl is necessary after major impurity (janābah).
